Dreams in the Face of Doubt with Tanya Geisler | Courageous Conversations, ep200

See this content in the original post

This is the final week of our Courageous Conversation series and we are ending with the most incredible guest, Tanya Geisler.

Tanya was one of the very first coaches I worked with and to me, she embodies courage in all of the ways.

In our conversation, she reminds us that just because other people don't "get" what you're doing doesn't mean they know something you don't.

In short, she reminds us to keep our eyes on our own journey and not let the outside noise distract us.

A few updates:

Next week will be our final Wholehearted Coaching Weekly and podcast episode before I go on summer break.  Every summer, I take a few months off to reset so I can return in the fall with more wholehearted content.  I'll be sharing something really special with you both here and on the podcast. So stay tuned!

And finally, these are the last 2 weeks to apply for The Wholehearted Coaching Certification before enrollment closes on June 16th.

Our mission at the Wholehearted Life Coaching Certification is to change the landscape of coaching by fostering a new generation of diverse coaches who practice through a decolonized lens that prioritizes healing, inclusivity and liberation for all.

This is about bringing the soul back to coaching. This is about bringing your whole self (your medicine and magic) into this work.

If you've ever considered becoming a coach, I hope you will apply. Applications are open until June 16 or until we fill up! There are currently 10 spaces left.

I really hope that you will consider joining us in our next cohort, or get on our waitlist, to join a future cohort!

Let's get into this week's wholehearted content...

Let’s talk about “them”

Them being the well-intentioned people in our lives who love and care for us. The people who truly want the best for us.

You know, our close family, friends, and colleagues.

So often, when we are about to take a big leap or are even considering taking one, it is often “them” who try to talk us out of it.

They say endless refrains of:

“Are you sure about this?”
“This is really unlike you.”
“Have you really thought this through?”

We’ve all been there. We’ve shared a dream or hope with someone we love, and instead of offering us their unwavering support, they offer us doubt with a generous heap of fear.

So we start to second-guess ourselves. Maybe they know better than us? Maybe they know something we don’t know?

What I have come to understand is that no one knows better than you when it comes to you and your life.

And more often than not, well-intentioned advice is just projected fear.

You see, our dreams sometimes scare the bejesus out of people. It’s true. Our courage, our hope, our audacity can be really scary to some.

Our deepest desires can sometimes activate other’s deepest fears. And so, they offer their advice not because they know better but because they don’t want to see us hurt or disappointed. They think they’re operating from love, but it’s really from their own fear.

Remember love, your dreams are incredibly delicate at the beginning. Only share them with those you know can handle their preciousness.

Perhaps that’s a select few.
Or perhaps, that’s just you and your journal.

Once you become more confident and courageous about the leap you’re about to take, that’s when it’s time to tell "them".

Now, will they share their “advice”? Yes.

But will it make you waver? No
.

If you want to dive in deeper and feel more confident in your dreams, tune in to this week’s podcast episode and interview with Tanya Geisler.

Try out this week's journal prompts and see what comes up, love:

  • Who in your life can handle your dreams even in their most delicate state?

  • Who in your life tends to be a party pooper when it comes to your dreams?

About your host, Shirin Eskandani

Hi, love! I’m Shirin.

Coach, speaker, writer, and life alchemist.

I teach you how to listen to your intuition again, tune out all the BS, and let your heart lead the way.

Because once you strengthen your inner GPS, decisions become easier, boundaries become clearer, and belly laughs become a daily thing.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME:

  • I’m a certified life coach (accredited through the International Coach Federation)

  • My husband and I met on Instagram and we live in Brooklyn, NY with our plant babies

  • I have a masters degree in Music and was a professional opera singer for twelve years.  I worked all over the world singing on stage at Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Opera (more on that later…).

  • I believe in the woo just as much as I do the work (internal and external).  No amount of crystals and affirmations will make up for a lack of a healthy mindset and aligned action.

  • I love all the Real Housewives franchises.  Don’t make me choose one… seriously, don’t.
