Wholehearted Sessions: "How do I get my confidence back?" | ep208

quote graphic: "you can't go back to who you once were. you can only move forward toward who you are becoming."

Today, I want to take you on a journey through a Wholehearted Session - a live coaching session with my client, Brawner. I started this series for a couple of reasons.

First, I personally love podcasts where I get to listen in on therapy sessions. They feel incredibly therapeutic even if the specific details aren’t relatable to my life. Often, what the client unpacks helps me navigate my own challenges. I wanted to create the same experience with coaching.

Through the Wholehearted Sessions we’ve published, I’ve received amazing feedback from listeners who found these sessions instrumental in helping them navigate their own struggles.

This series aims to demystify coaching.

Many people have misconceptions about what coaching is and what happens during a session. I want you all to experience what wholehearted coaching is truly about.

At the core of wholehearted coaching is the deep belief that my clients know what is best for them. They are wise, resourceful, strong, and resilient. My role as a coach is to create a safe space where they can reclaim that wisdom. It’s all about the client—how I facilitate that discovery requires effort and intention.

Navigating Challenges: Embracing Change and Growth

In this session, Brawner came to me wanting to find her confidence again.

She longed to return to who she used to be: that vibrant version of herself who could speak her mind and embrace her joy. However, I knew that seeking to go back to her former self wasn't realistic, given the profound challenges she had faced over the past year.

It’s common to wish we could revert to how we once were after going through difficult times, but we often overlook the ways those experiences have changed us.

As her coach, my responsibility wasn’t to tell her that returning to her former self was impossible. Instead, it was to ask questions, hold space for exploration, and nurture curiosity, so she could come to that conclusion herself. This session illustrates how coaching, while distinct from therapy, can still be incredibly therapeutic. We often have to acknowledge the past to understand the present and create a better future.

Key Insights from the Live Coaching Session with Brawner

As we delved into Brawner’s experiences, I reminded myself of my personal coaching mantra: "Simple, silence, and concise."

I can tend to over-explain and ask too many questions, so I’ve learned that keeping my inquiries simple allows for more profound insights to emerge.

The more space I create during a session, the more magic happens.

Throughout our half-hour session, we uncovered valuable insights that I believe will resonate with many of you. The challenges Brawner faced served as a backdrop for her personal growth, highlighting the importance of not just surviving but thriving after hardship. I invite you to listen closely to how I navigate our conversation, leaving room for Brawner to find her own answers.

Hi, love! I’m Shirin.

Coach, speaker, writer, and life alchemist.

I teach you how to listen to your intuition again, tune out all the BS, and let your heart lead the way.

Because once you strengthen your inner GPS, decisions become easier, boundaries become clearer, and belly laughs become a daily thing.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME:

  • I’m a certified life coach (accredited through the International Coach Federation)

  • My husband and I met on Instagram and we live in Brooklyn, NY with our plant babies

  • I have a masters degree in Music and was a professional opera singer for twelve years.  I worked all over the world singing on stage at Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Opera (more on that later…).

  • I believe in the woo just as much as I do the work (internal and external).  No amount of crystals and affirmations will make up for a lack of a healthy mindset and aligned action.

  • I love all the Real Housewives franchises.  Don’t make me choose one… seriously, don’t.
